Music is probably the most present art form in modern life: from radio programs to television programs, from means of transport to public places, it is difficult to think of a situation in which there is no music.

Music education has always played an important role in the education of young people: already in ancient Greece it was underlined the intimate correlation with mathematics, while in the Middle Ages it was one of the parts of the Quadrivio, that is of the preparatory subjects for university studies.

Today, a wide range of toys is available to introduce children to music from an early age.

Children and music

When we think of children and music, we always think of precocious genes like Mozart. However, music education is valuable and useful for every child. Research in the field of neuroscience has shown its importance in cognitive development: music, in its components of melody and rhythm, in fact stimulates both hemispheres of the brain, influences the re-elaboration of sounds and therefore the development of language skills, accustoms the brain to look for logical patterns and train pisomotor coordination.

How to choose music games

The basic criterion in choosing music games is the age of the child.

For babies and toddlers maracas and rattles are recommended: the child can become familiar with the production of sounds through an instrument and acquire the first rudiments on rhythm. The musical games for the little ones are always in plastic and with rounded corners.

For children from 6 months upwards there are small keyboards, to play the first notes or listen to the first songs: in this way the child is introduced to the melody. Numbers and letters are also associated with many of these toys.

For children over the age of one, here are xylophones in plastic, wood and metal, with which to combine melodies and percussion. A further step forward that can lead to the study of musical instruments, generally recommended for ages 5 and up.
